Months in Japanese (月 / がつ / gatsu)
In Japanese, months are expressed by combining a number with the counter 月 (がつ / gatsu). The pattern is very regular compared to other counters.
Basic Pattern
Number + 月 (がつ / gatsu)
1月 (いちがつ / ichigatsu)
6月 (ろくがつ / rokugatsu)
10月 (じゅうがつ / juugatsu)
Important Pronunciation Exceptions
Some months have different pronunciations and should be memorized carefully.
4月 (しがつ / shigatsu)
7月 (しちがつ / shichigatsu)
9月 (くがつ / kugatsu)
These are exceptions because the usual number readings (よん, なな, きゅう) are not used in months.

日本に三月に行きます。
Nihon ni sangatsu ni ikimasu.
I will go to Japan in March.
