Story

The kanji 地 combines the “earth/soil” radical (土) with the character for “foundation” or “base” (也), symbolizing the ground or surface of the earth. In ancient times, it represented land, territory, or the physical ground people live and build on. 地 came to mean earth, ground, or land, capturing stability, foundation, and the natural surface beneath us.
