好 is made from 女, meaning “woman,” and 子, meaning “child.” In old times, a woman caring for a child represented harmony and warmth. From this feeling of harmony and pleasantness, 好 came to mean good, liked, or fond of.

Short Story

When a woman and a child are together in harmony, it feels good. That feeling is 好.
