Story

The kanji 泳 is made of two parts: 氵(water) and 永(forever or long-lasting). The left part, 氵, shows that the word has to do with water. The right part, 永, means something that continues without stopping. When you put them together, it creates the idea of a person moving smoothly and endlessly through water — swimming. It shows both the motion and the feeling of flowing in water.
